The Melrose Energy Commission (MEC) is excited to invite you to the December 6 launch of the first City-wide community outreach campaign designed to serve local businesses and nonprofits. The Big Roof Solar program, sponsored by the Energy Commission, is an initiative that serves the City’s goals to be carbon neutral by 2050 and help our local businesses and nonprofits save money on energy bills.
MEC is teaming up with Resonant Energy and the Boston Solar Company to offer bulk purchase discounts, educational workshops, one-on-one coaching and assistance throughout the process.
The goal of Big Roof Solar is the installation of 250 kilowatts of solar capacity (kW) on the roofs of nonprofits and small businesses in Melrose over the next year. In many cases, the solar panel systems will produce a surplus of electricity for the building owner. This energy can then be shared with homeowners and others who have “shady roofs,” allowing access to clean energy and cost savings for the recipient, and revenue generation for the solar host.
Join us for the launch party of December 6th, 6:30 -8:15 p.m. to celebrate the launch of the campaign, learn about your options for solar and hear from others in the community about why they moved forward with solar.
